Steve is a Rio Grande Valley native. He grew up observing his Dad, Paul Fankhauser, build a CPA firm, in Edinburg, Texas. Long-time Valley residents remember him as a youngster running around his Dad's office and playing with the calculator. He graduated from UT- Austin. The next 3 years were spent in Houston working for Touche Ross, then a "Big-8" Accounting firm, where he met Lee. Following several years of working for an oil & gas exploration and production company in the Woodlands, the family moved back to McAllen to be closer to his family.

Lee grew up in a small town in northern Oklahoma, Ponca City. She moved to Texas in 1978, after finishing two years of college and obtaining an Associate's Degree in Music from Cottey College in Missouri. She graduated from the University of Houston, with a BBA-Accounting in 1981 and worked in the Houston office of Touche Ross for two years.She worked in a local Houston CPA firm for a few years and had her own home-based firm in McAllen for five years before opening Fankhauser & Company with Steve in 1990. When their 3 children were young, she spent more time at home than at the office. In 2016 she became a grandmother. She loves spending time with her precious grand-babies, enjoys hiking, gardening, and other outdoor activities.
